5 Ways To Increase Your Employees' Resilience During COVID

Updated: Jun 10, 2021

The resilience of both individuals and businesses is being super-stretched now. This increased and prolonged uncertainty increases anxiety, tests the strongest, and restricts the ability of individuals and organisations to thrive.

This was the focus of Monday’s Dorset and Hampshire HR Forum, facilitated by myself and Janell White, MCIPD. It’s such an important topic, we’ve decided to share the recording with you, and 5 key take-aways:

  1. Resilience is the ability to bounce back, especially from challenges. The elasticity of our bounce-back has become over-stretched, and we need to watch out for signs of stress, fatigue and exhaustion (in ourselves and our teams)

  2. Focus on the short-term, the things we can control and the glass half-full (what we can do rather than what we can’t do)

  3. For employers: support the above, including daily exercise, regular consistent communications which focus on the short-term, what we can control and glass half-full. Go for quick and easy wins.

  4. Include great resilience tips in your newsletter/ team email and signpost support, e.g. https://www.time-to-change.org.uk/about-mental-health

  5. Be available to talk about mental health, and know where to refer people in crisis: https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/nhs-services/mental-health-services/where-to-get-urgent-help-for-mental-health

Check out our 4 minute highlights video, which summarises resilience at work, and gives you 10 great tips for employees and employers.
