Developing Intrapreneurs at Poole Housing Partnership

Background

Poole Housing Partnership Ltd (PHP) is a non-profit making organisation providing landlord and housing management services for BCP in Poole. These services include sheltered housing, maintain & improve housing stock, and tenancy support services. PHP was shortlisted for the UK Housing Landlord of the Year Award 2019.

Business Goal

To improve Poole Housing Partnership’s effectiveness at planning and managing programmes and business improvement projects. This included a shared approach of method and mindset between the 13 participants (comprising of Senior Managers and Building Surveyors).

Approach

Individuals Needs Assessments built trust and identified personal development needs and those relating to the goal, and included Motivational Maps. E-learning and workshops were designed and delivered to increase the team’s knowledge and capability of creating and planning projects. These included:

  • stakeholder mapping
  • problem-solving tools
  • project processes

Time Management and Delegation skills were increased to release time to focus on business improvements. 30 Day Projects were used to apply their new knowledge and the tools, with update presentations at 15 & 30 days. A toolkit was created with the managers and refined through application throughout the programme.

Results

During the programme, the 30 Day Projects created business improvements across the organisation. The projects:

  • identified cost savings in 2 areas
  • identified ways of reducing empty properties
  • accelerated an office redesign
  • improved a referrals process
  • improved an induction programme
  • created a tender evaluation method
  • accelerated a tenant sign up process
  • clarified expectations of a service
  • accelerated contractor mobilisation
  • identified best options for waste treatment
  • accelerated knowledge of public procurement
  • scoped and prioritised the rebranding of legal documentation.

A shared approach, understanding and toolkit were created which the team fully buy into.

Dorset Chamber of Commerce

Background

Developed and delivered by Aspirin Business in partnership with The Dorset Growth Hub and Dorset Chamber of Commerce, this course was fully funded for eligible participants, as part of a grant scheme funded by the European Development Fund.

Business Goal

Aspirin Business was asked to develop a Management Programme to enable middle Managers and new leaders of Dorset businesses to strengthen their confidence and capability to manage both teams and service functions.

Approach

We used a blended learning approach, including 3 half day workshops, e-learning and 30 Day Projects to significantly increase the quality of learning and
knowledge retention through participation, practice and application. This was preceded by individual Needs Assessment and tailoring of the course content.

The workshops focused on:

  • Taking ownership and being proactive

  • Business improvement projects
  • SMART goal setting
  • Practical use of planning tools.
